Very useful. Site is being updated and they hope to have the extracts available soon.
'The Domesday Book' : Sussex
Has some information on local places that you may find interesting, e.g. Hove was not in Domesday whereas Portslade was - actually!

The Normans, a European People
Covers most of this period, until the end of King John's reign. After the introduction, click on the arrow at the bottom of the left hand column. That will take you to the main chapter headings. It is easily accessible with mini-menus, maps and some pictures.

    Part of the B.B.C.'s Medicine Through Time site, this offers clear, informative and interesting access points.

    The Slave Trade
    Africans in America
    The experience of American slaves is presented in 4 parts from the 16th century onwards. It includes information about Olaudah Equiano.
    The Black Presence in Britain
    It considers slavery as well as the wider context of black people in Britain.
    Eras in Black History
    Enter Encyclopedia Britannica's site via the 1517 - 1863 picture, best done through the 'Eras in Black History' gif in the centre.

    Slavery in 18th Century Britain
    Gives a fairly brief overview but is useful for its contemporary illustrations.
    Spartacus Educational
    Includes personal accounts, the slave trade, slavery in the USA, the Abolition movements and British campaigners.
    Tansatlantic Slave Trade
    Part of the Liverpool Maritime Museum site, it looks at Britain's role in the trade and its impact on the city. It closes in June 2007 to be replaced by the International Slavery Museum.

    Offers an excellent and accessible selection such as Trench Warfare in WWI including Food in the Trenches and Memories of trench life
    Learning Curve's The Great War, 1914-1918
    Excellent. Have a look at The trench experience in particular The Daily Grind to see what the soldiers' lives were like.
    You'll need to try the Trench Experience Activity at home as 'Bess' has blocked the ActiveX control.

    Listen to a selection of songs and music from the period
    Trench Warfare
    Fight your own battles in these animated sequences. Find out first hand just how the Generals slaughtered their troops.
    The Western Front, 1914 - 1918 Animation
    An excellent animation sequence from the BBC History pages.
    World War One
    A Directory in itself from the HistoryWiz site. Well worth exploring if you have some time.
    WWWIAviation.Com - A Pictorial History of WWI
    As well as very detailed information about the men and machines, it also offers an overview of the war. Quite technical in places, for the plane enthusiast this is a superb site.

    An excellent site. Enter via 'Exhibitions' for information on 19th Century, WWI and Victorians. The 'Focus On' contains very useful Domesday section.
    Medicine Through Time
    Excellent but beware - the interactive site can take AGES to download.
    Monarchy Through the Ages
    Profiles of all the British monarchs since Offa, plus, some of their famous speeches.
    Museum of London
    Mostly a description of what they have got but there are one or two web friendly galleries.
    Spartacus Educational
    Looks at British history from 1750. Excellent for Child Labour, WWI etc.
