The
College Library computers are available to students during the 'school'
day for study purposes only. You may reserve them for break and
lunchtime by completing the booking form. Just write
your name in your chosen 'time slot'. They may only be reserved for
that day - no advance bookings. |
You may use them to access the Internet
for research or for the Office 2003 programmes.
Games, cheat sites, personal email etc are not allowed. See the College
Library ICT Agreement for full details. |
| :: Using the computers :: |
| Log onto the
College network as usual with Username and Password. |
| Log off using Ctrl + Alt + Delete - do
NOT lock the pc or shut it down. |
| E-mails may only be sent for study related purposes in
lesson time. Students wishing to e-mail friends etc should use ICT
facilities elsewhere in the College. |
| Work must be saved to the user's Home
Directory, USB pen or floppy disc. |
| Do not save to My Documents or elsewhere
on the C:Drive as it will save to that pc only and will not be available
elsewhere on the network. |
| :: Printing :: |
| Your ICT PRINT CREDITS are
on the front inside cover of your planner. They may only be used by
you for study purposes. They are not transferrable to a friend. |
Do NOT print until you have:
• checked Print preview
• asked if it is OK to print
• given your planner to the librarian on duty (open on your
PRINT CREDITS) or the necessary money according to current charges. |
| Always use the File
and then the Print command and, if necessary, specify the pages
required. |
NEVER use the icon
or you may get more than you bargained for! |
| They may not be used for photocopying. |
| Unused PRINT CREDITS may be carried through
to the following year. |

of using the Librry workstations you accept personal responsibility

Accept full responsibility for own use.This includes
never providing another person with own password, impersonating another
person or choosing to remain anonymous when personal details are required. |

Never to use another student's logon and password. |

Use appropriate language. |

Use email for study purposes only. |

Use the Internet for curriculum related purposes (i.e.
no games, cheat sheets, chat rooms etc). |

Not Spam, i.e. distribute unwanted / unsolicited material
to email addresses. |

Never send or encourage others to send abusive messages
or to harass or menace another through electronic means. |

Not reveal personal address or telephone details of
self or anyone else. |

Adhere to the copyright regulations of the sites visited. |
| 10 |
Correctly reference web sites used for homework and/or
coursework. |
| 11 |
Report any misuse of the network to a member of staff. |

Not alter, tamper with or manipulate any software or
hardware belonging to Portslade Community College. |

Use only the programmes provided and not load or download
any software programmes. |
| 14 |
Neither deliberately nor inadvertently spread a computer
virus. If a file becomes infected, a member of staff must be informed. |
| :: Viewpoint - Online Public Access
Catalogue or OPAC :: |
| The Viewpoint terminal at the back of the
library can be used to access the library catalogue. It shows where
a book is and if it is available - right across Brighton & Hove. College
Library items are listed as 'PCC' and public
library stock as 'Mile Oak Library'. |
| The Viewpoint terminal may also be used to access borrower
details, you need your College Library Card number and PIN . Your
PIN is available from the counter on production of a valid College
Library Card and 1 piece of ID such as a planner. |
| Do not use the Viewpoint terminal to reserve items on your College
card. Always do this at the counter. |
| Apart from the Viewpoint terminal, the workstations at the back of
the library are for public use only. However, students may use them
as members of the public on Saturday mornings or in the holidays. It
is advisable to book in advance, particularly on Saturday mornings. |
